Folkbomb explosion aftermath

We really jazzed it up for the first hour, transitioning to other genres with a Sharon Jones track. Somebody called in to reprimand me about some dead air when I came back from a bathroom break. That bummed me out. Being on the radio is the best, though, and I picked myself off, dusted myself off, and played some Flaming Lips.

Today's high points were the steel drum-laced Hindou track from El Guincho, and a couple of surprise quiet songs from Emma Tricca (who is she??) and Good Old War. The low points were not worth mentioning, save to say that folk music is like a brambly forest, at first you are having a lovely walk through, and suddenly you are entangled in a scratchy, prickly, unpleasant and high-pitched whinging sort of bush from which there is no escape, until the stupid song finishes and you can put on another.

A Primer on Photography from a Guy Named Pepe

The photography that Pepe Karmel is writing about in this article may be interesting in itself, but what I enjoyed about this particular piece of internet rag is how much one can learn about the merits, shall we say, of different styles of photography. I guess photography is similar to poetry in that the medium originated with much attention to form, and later, looser styles emerged with a cacophony of debate around their particular advantages etc.
